Fighting against fly-tipping

Fly tipping

Monday 24 September 2018

A number individuals have been brought to justice in relation to fly-tipping and duty of care offences.

Last month, one man in Loughton was fined £1560 in prosecution costs and fines after pleading guilty to failing his household waste duty of care at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court.

A resident of Canvey Island received costs of £2100 for fly tipping household waste into a disused garage in November 2017, and another resident was served a £400 FPN for fly tipping household waste at one of our industrial sites, in August 2017.

Many more cases are currently working their way through the court system. Residents with any information which could help convict fly-tippers are encouraged to contact their local council in the first instance, or the Environment Agency on 0800 80 70 60.
