Toy donation project a success

Toys Donated by Essex People

Monday 14 January 2019

The recent toy donation project, held in numerous locations across Essex throughout December and the first half of January, has been described as a “rip roaring success”.

The Love Essex team set up donation points in the Brentwood, Epping Forest and Colchester areas for residents to pass on a wide variety of toys that were no longer wanted. These included soft toys, board games, children’s books and video games.

The charitable reuse organisations involved in the project were Lighthouse Furniture Project, Epping Forest Reuse and Repair Reuse Recycle CIC. They collected and distributed the toys to worthy causes over the Christmas period to support those in need.

The charities that received the toys included

  • Basildon Women’s Refuge
  • Haven House Hospice
  • Loughton Food Bank
  • St Clare Hospice in Harlow
  • The Meadows Children Centre
  • Norway House in North Weald

The total number of toys collected as part of this project, including a partner scheme, was 4,000, equating to around 4 tonnes.

Everyone involved was overwhelmed by the generosity of people in Essex. Another great consequence of the scheme was that relatively few toys were unable to be passed on, making this a project hugely successful for the environment and the community.
