What is Simpler Recycling?

'Simpler Recycling' refers to new regulations being introduced across England over the next few years. These changes will affect both businesses (including educational institutions) and households. Here's what you need to know:

• as of 31 March 2025, all businesses with over 10 full-time employees are now required to collect general rubbish, recycling, and food waste separately
   
• from 31 March 2026, local authorities must ensure all households, including flats, have these separate collections
   
• from 31 March 2027, businesses of all sizes will be required to separate their recycling and food waste from general rubbish. Soft plastics will also be collected as part of recycling services in England

Depending on the arrangements of your local waste collector, this may include separate collections for paper and card from other recyclable materials such as plastic, metal, and glass.
